How do you honor a beloved teacher who cares deeply about the joy and creativity in moving our bodies and has a fierce dedication to environmental education and getting outside?

The students in our Friends School of Minnesota Environmental Action Club (EAC) had some ideas.

They knew whatever it was had to be fun, active, outside, and accessible to our wider community. Some of the students had been doing Minnesota animal studies in art. They had the idea to combine their animal studies and a physical outdoor activity.

The FSMN Animal Olympics were born!

They started with their artwork. How do these animals move? How can we make a fun game using the artwork and the movement of the animals?

With the help of teachers and members of the Environmental Action Committee, the students designed a trail. People participating in the “olympics” move from station to station challenging themselves to do the movements on the marker.

The olympic trail is used by children on recess, and is used by children who may need a movement break during the day. We also love it when children from our community discover the trail.

Pictures coming soon!
