The first day of school is always special for members of a learning community, but this first day felt unusually special. There was a sense of renewal and rebirth more commonly associated with spring than fall. Students greeted each other with extra giggles and smiling eyes, happy to see each other and be together again in community. The return to Friends School brought joy to the adults in our community as well. Families lingered a few extra minutes chatting and laughing in groups throughout the front yard, on sidewalks, or near their cars. This momentum continued throughout the day as teachers and staff commented frequently about the heartening return of life to our hallways and classrooms. Students make a building a school. It is so good to have them back. Friends School of Minnesota felt like a school on the rise today. We have come back together well rested and with a strong desire to reclaim our community. This was so apparent all day. This is a great school, held in the care of a great community. We are going to do great things together. |
