Some Quakers define the “inner light” as that of God or a divine light. Some Quakers don’t define the inner light that way at all, but choose to see it as their truest self. At our school, because we are a Quaker school, we may talk about what Quakers believe and the variety of ways that Quakers may define their beliefs, but our students and staff reflect on what they believe through the lens of Quaker values and how their culture and their family help shape their beliefs. We talk about the concept of a unique inner light that everyone has, but it is up to our students to define what that light is for them.
