Service Learning at Centro

Friends School of Minnesota has an on going relationship with Centro, a Latino multi-service agency in Minneapolis.

In 2005, Friends School middle school students began taking field trips to Siembra, the preschool at Centro. FSM students shared books, games, and activities with the preschoolers.  They gained real world experience speaking and listening in Spanish and became better acquainted with the Latino community in the Twin Cities area.

Currently FSM's summer program  brings 10-13 year olds from FSM and the greater community to Centro for service learning.  During the summer session Manos Con Centro, students volunteer  helping in the pre-school, food shelf, community gardens, clothing distribution center, playground or offices.

Friends School has also had the opportunity to respond to Centro community needs with food, classroom materials, and clothing drive.

We are very fortunate to have this developing partnership with Centro, and look forward to future student and community cultural exchanges.
